PATTANI -- A former village chief was shot dead when he took his pig-tailed macaque for a bath in the Pattani River in Kapho district on Wednesday. Pol Capt Veerayut Intarat, the duty officer at Kapho police station, said the attack occurred about 12.10pm on the bank of the Pattani River near Ban Biting in tambon Talo Dueman. While Ateh Yuso, 65, a former village chief, was giving his monkey a bath he was shot by an unknown assailant. He died on the way to hospital. Police were investigating whether the attack was related to the insurgency.
